Hair Replacement Surgery

Many men and women begin to experience hair loss in mid life due to a variety of different causes. These can include hereditary conditions, thyroid and endocrine factors, and occasionally accidents, burns and scalp disease.

The medical and surgical treatment of hair loss is an important part of our practice at the Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery Center. Dr. Putman prescribes appropriate medical therapy for the right candidates and recommends hair replacement surgery using very small grafts called follicular unit grafts, mini-grafts and micro-grafts. Hair replacement surgery requires viable donor areas in the posterior scalp along with adequate hair quality and density. Following transplantation, hair re-growth begins within a short period of time and is evident by about 4 to 6 months following the procedure. Hair replacement surgery frequently requires more than one session to obtain maximum density, usually spacing these sessions four to six months apart to allow for adequate healing.
